SVCPC Programs: Patrols

Bike Patrol

Bike PatrolsThe SVCPC Bike Patrol Team hopes to continue to play a very positive and invaluable role within our community. Our trained members patrol the streets of South Vancouver, day and night, in search of stolen vehicles, abandoned autos, and suspicious activities.

Our patrollers also function as a deterrent to countless crimes. Our goal is to facilitate a safer, more harmonious community. Many new plans and ideas have been implemented over the past year, such as the use of the VPD Stolen Auto Recovery Program, which allows our patrollers to locate stolen vehicles with the touch of a button.

If you wish to become a part of our dynamic team, and have a couple of hours a week to spare, come and volunteer with us at the South Vancouver Community Policing Centre. You'll be glad you did! The SVCPC provides all of the necessary training and equipment free of charge. SVCPC Bike Patrol members are instructed by certified Canadian Cycling Association Can-Bike Instructors! Please see the Canadian Cycling Assocation's website for further information on the Can-Bike Program.

Foot Patrol

footpatrolTrained, uniformed volunteers conduct patrols of the commercial and residential areas in the district. Through their highly visible presence the foot patrollers function as a deterrent to crime.

The patrollers presence also helps enhance the sense of safety and security of the public.

Pooch Patrol

Dog owners are recruited and trained by the Vancouver Police Department to operate as extra eyes and ears while walking their dog in their neighborhood.

They are taught to observe and report any unusual or suspicious activities that may occur. If you would like to join our team please contact the office.

Speed Watch

speedwatchSpeed Watch volunteers trained by ICBC set up road side stations with speed monitoring devices and speed reader boards in order to inform drivers of the speed that they are traveling.

The program is aimed at reminding drivers to drive safely and stay within the posted speed limit. Vancouver Police Officers occasionally work with the Speed Watch members by setting up actual speed traps a few hundred metres down the road. If the drivers do not slow down for the Speed Watch members they will be forced to do so by the Vancouver Police, and of course receive a speeding ticket from one of Vancouver's Finest!

If you are interested in joining our team please contact our office.
