"South Van's Neighbourhood Police Officer Retires" REVUE, Summer 2011
- Collegue, Teacher, Mentor, Friend -
- Mark Jarvie, truly made a difference-
Thank you, Constable Jarvie for your dedication and commitment to the citizens of Vancouver, and in particular to the community served by the South Vancouver Community Policing Centre. you have been the vital connection between the Vancouver Police Department and the residents in the South Vancouver community. Best wishes on your retirement.
Mark came to the South Vancouver Community Policing Centre in 1998, when it was operating out of a tiny building at the corner of E51st and Fraser Street. Under his leadership the CPC has evolved into one of the most efficient and thriving Community Policing Centres in Vancouver. His friendly and outgoing personality along with his solid policing skills, and knowledge of the community has made him an invaluable resource to the schools, community agencies, seniors, families, and youth of this area.
Mark has trained citizens to be members of the Pooch Patrol, Bike Patrol, Foot Patrol, Speed Watch, he has supported and liaised with the office staff, the Board of Directors, and the business community. With all this he still found the time to contribute to the Revue's Crime time column, make a number of crime prevention videos and more importantly listen and respond to residents as they expressed their suspicions regarding grow-ops, drug dealing or other crimes going on in the community.
Mark, you have truly made a difference in this community. We will miss you as a colleague, teacher, mentor and more importantly as a friend.
Congratulations and all the best in your retirement.
